Beat Seasonal Stress!

by Chelsea Stewart

As the holiday season approaches, many people begin to experience increased levels of both stress and seasonal depression. The lack of vitamin D that our bodies need have a huge impact on how our emotions are regulated and the overall function of our bodies. Below are 5 tips and tricks to stay on top of your mental health this holiday season.

  1. Develop a regular exercise routine. Exercising increases dopamine levels in your brain and can make you feel better about yourself.

  2. Go outside. Despite the frigid temperatures, a short walk outside once a day can reduce levels of stress and anxiety.

  3. Drink more water. People tend to underestimate the value of proper hydration. Be one step ahead this year and stay hydrated.

  4. Reach out to your loved ones. It is common for people to close off from their loved ones during this time, but reaching out and having meaningful conversations can majorly improve your mood, day, or even holiday season.

  5. Eat a balanced diet. This is a pretty common tip, but it is because of the huge impact food has on your body’s ability to function, along with your natural emotion regulation.

We here at the Spartan Shield hope you use these tips and tricks this year to stay on top of your physical and mental health, and have the best year yet! Happy Holidays!
