Music Electives
by Mr. Boyer
When you are looking to schedule next year, here are some Music courses that Laurel has to
offer!
The High School Concert Band is a great place to continue working on your musical skills.
The groups perform multiple concerts throughout the year, have the opportunity to play music
from different genres (classical, modern, and film music), and give you a chance to participate in
the PMEA festivals and the Lawrence County All-Star Band festival.
In addition to Concert Band, students are encouraged to take Individual Band Lessons. You
can use this time to work on Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Ensemble, or private lesson
music. Lessons are determined between the director and student to find a time each week to
meet.
The Concert Choir and the Mixed Chorus are 2 great classes to expand your singing skills.
There are 4 concerts throughout the year as well as other full group opportunities to sing in the
community (Christmas caroling). We sing in many different styles and languages as we prepare
for our performances. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in PMEA festivals.
In the Music Theory course, you will learn about how music works! This includes chords,
intervals, scale patterns, part-writing, and score analysis. Students must have one year of
experience in Concert Choir or Concert Band.
If you have any other questions, please see Mrs. Clingerman or Mr. Boyer!
