Artist Spotlight
Marissa Morar is a senior here at Laurel High School. She is known for her amazing pieces of artwork that she creates in her art classes. She got into art when she was about 13 years old. Marissa’s reasoning comes from how she has always felt like she was super creative and enjoyed drawing things she had come up with from her imagination. When she got older, Marissa had discovered and developed strong interests in both drawing and painting. Now she finds herself more interested in the different types and techniques of painting. Marissa states that “Art is very important to me, and it helps me to better express myself in ways I can’t in real life.” Below is a list of a few of her paintings and their descriptions.
Swan Lake; “The movie, Black Swan, is one of my favorite movies to watch. The main character, Nina, is played by my favorite actress, Natalie Portman. I felt inspired by the unique and elaborate costumes within the movie's portrayal of the ballet, Swan Lake. I recreated the scene where Nina feels devoted and consumed by ballet and her role. This scene and movie mean a lot to me so that is why I chose to paint it.”
Ophelia; “I saw an image of a woman laying in the water, I thought her hair flowing with the stream was gorgeous. I recreated this idea in my own idea of how she would look. I also love how beautiful and peaceful nature looks and makes me feel. So I included some flowers as well to showcase that idea.”
Lana Del Rey NFR; “Lana’s music had an immense influence on me throughout my life beginning at the start of my junior year. Her music changed me as a whole, because of her I view life through a different perspective than I had prior. NFR is my all time favorite album of hers, so I wanted to use my talent to recreate something that meant so much to me.”
Padme from Star Wars; “My all time favorite movie series and franchise is Star Wars, and being that Natalie Portman, my favorite actress, is in the series I thought it was a perfect idea to paint. Padme is also my favorite character in the series, her costumes and hair have inspired me to recreate her beauty in painting form.”
Fallen Angel; “This painting is one of the first that I had officially finished and created by myself. I had seen this image of a fallen angel and felt inspired by the idea, so I decided to recreate the image in my own techniques and perspectives.”
