Upcoming Blood Drive

by Breah Dewberry

Wednesday November 1, 2023, Laurel High School’s National Honors Society is hosting a blood drive. The blood drive is being held in the old gym from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. National Honors Society encourages people to give blood for it could save lives.

This blood drive is offering Power Red donations and regular blood donations. A Power Red donation collects the red cells from the donor but returns most of the plasma to said donor. There are, however, eligibility requirements for a Power Red donation such as having either type A neg, B neg, or O blood. The regular blood donation typically gains one pint of blood from the donor, which usually takes about an hour. You can register to give blood at https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=laurelspartans

If you’re nervous or not sure if you want to give blood there are many reasons why you should. The most obvious being that it can be critical to help doctors save lives. In fact, one blood donation can save up to three lives. There is no substitute for blood so every donation counts. Giving blood is a great way to help the community!
