Spartan Hockey Players

by Hannah Seifert

Coming up this month, we have many fall and winter sports approaching us. While many of our fall and winter sports run through our Laurel School District, there is one sport that our students are involved with that most forget about— Hockey!

In Lawrence County we have three hockey teams to accommodate every school. When it comes to Laurel students, they can tryout for the Lawrence County Lightning Hockey Team and the Neshannock Hockey Team. There are many different age divisions, where you can find first graders, all the way through your super seniors. The home ice where you can come and support your favorite hockey players can be found in Neshannock, right by Pearson park known as Hess Ice Rink. Hess Ice Rink, also just went through a beautiful remodeling to make our hockey players, family members, and friends, all feel welcome. Many of your parents' friends are also accommodated with this organization, from being head coaches such as Tim Seifert, Dave Johns, Jeff Burgess etc. or being team managers such as Amy Johns, Jen Burgess etc.

Even though the hockey organization doesn't run straight through Laurel School District, we all need to remember that we do have these amazing options to play hockey as a Laurel Spartan. This month we can begin to support many of our Laurel Spartans, on the ice, such as; Matthew Shaffer, Aiden Fuchs, Hayden Seifert, Butch Burgess, Jacob Gruber, Chris Johns, Nick Fedrizzi, and so many more! The seasons will be starting very soon, so don't forget to bundle up in your blankets, grab a hot chocolate, and come support your Laurel hockey players.
