Student of the Month

by Talia Cartwright

Amber Medved is Laurel’s October Student of the Month for the class of 2023. Amber is involved in Laurel’s marching band as a Drum Major as well as a member of danceline. She is also a member of the Cheerleading squad, where their team has won WPIALs two times in her Cheerleading career. Amber is also a participant of the Laurel Theater Arts program and has been in shows like Mary Poppins, Les Miserables, Godspell, and most recently Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. She is a member of numerous clubs including Student Council, National Honors Society, and Class Council. Amber is also a member of Girl Scouts and Choir.

Outside of all of her extracurricular activities, she manages to remain a High Honor Roll student. Amber also was awarded a Scholarship Award along with Highest Verbal SAT Award in the Distinguished Young Women program. Her best high school memory is “I loved dancing and learning a bit of ASL for the musical Godspell, and dancing offstage with my friends whenever we could.”

Amber’s goals for the remainder of the school year is to “stop procrastinating, and to try to really enjoy the rest of high school.” After high school, she plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh to study History or English in hopes of becoming a teacher in these subjects in the future. She believes she was chosen as Student of the Month as she thinks of herself as a well-rounded student, and tries to be as involved as she can. Amber's advice for other students is “You’re capable of more than you think, so try to get out of your comfort zone.” Congratulations to Amber Medved on being October's Student of the Month and enjoy your senior year!
