9/6 Jr. High Game

by Breah Dewberry

High expectations were set for the Junior High football team after last season's success as the 2022 Junior High playoff champions. These high expectations were certainly exceeded after their first game on Wednesday, September 6th when they defeated the Neshannock Lancers 30-7. A great start to their 2023 season!

Though the game started at 4:30, the sun was still blazing without a cloud in the sky at 88℉. The weather however, did not alter the Spartan’s performance.

At the end of the first quarter the score was 8-7 in favor of the Spartans. Although the first quarter was a close game, our Laurel boys solidified their win soon after.

Anthony Geiwitz, #28, is to credit for most of the Spartan’s points. Most of them stemming from passes from the 8th grade quarterback, Josh Sherman, #9. Even though in the record books Geiwitz earns the points, the game of football is definitely a team effort and our offensive line, as well as our defense, should get just as much credit.

Our quarterback’s abilities did not stop at offense. Sherman successfully intercepted a long pass from Neshannock’s quarterback to turn it back over to Laurel in the 3rd quarter.  The Spartan’s have a bright future!

Come support our 7th and 8th football team this season!
