Sam Reckard

by Breah Dewberry

Sam Reckard has been chosen for December’s student of the month! Each student of the month is chosen by a Google Form sent to each of the teachers that includes each senior student. As student of the month, Sam got to decorate a showcase in the High School lobby with things that sum up Sam’s time as a high school student at Laurel. Sam’s showcase includes pictures of her favorite memories, family, friends, vacations, and Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. In addition, Sam has pins from NHS and standing student council medals from science olympiad. Make sure to stop by to check out her showcase! In her high school career, Sam was involved in FBLA, student council, NHS, varsity L, and middle school house. She also works at Hillview Coffee. Her advice to underclassmen is “ To enjoy every moment because it goes by fast”. When asked who she wants to thank for all of her accomplishments and hard work in high school, she responded with, “My parents for always supporting me throughout high school even when times were tough.” She also thanked her best friends; “ I definitely wouldn’t be where I am without them.”.  Friends and family weren’t only her biggest supporters. Sam wants to thank Mrs. Hites, Mrs. Garner, and Mrs. Horodyski for “making an impact on my highschool career and not only educating me but also teaching me to be a good person.” After high school, Sam plans to go to a 4 year college and major in business/real estate. We also asked if Sam was happy or sad to leave Laurel High. She said, “The best way I can describe how I feel about high school being over is ‘Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened-’ Dr. Seuss”
