1k Points by Regan!

by Hannah Seifert

This past weekend on Saturday January 21, 2023 our Lady Spartans played a close matchup game against Greenville. The Laurel girls basketball team not only returned home, with a win of 43 to 34, but also with a senior hitting her one-thousandth point: Regan Atkins!

Regan started playing basketball in second grade with her older sister's team. Throughout her years of playing basketball, not only has she put much effort into being a Laurel Spartan basketball player, Regan has also played for two others travel teams, Red Storm, and Drill for Skill. Through Regan’s entire time of being a Spartan athlete, she says that her entire family has, and will always be her number one supporters.

In the late basketball season of 2022 Regan Atkins suffered an ACL tear leaving her out for the rest of the year, and all of volleyball season. Regan didn’t believe that after that injury she would be able to succeed her goal in scoring 1,000 points, but with the support and love from the Spartan community, she came back better than ever, and proved us and herself wrong. A piece of advice Regan would give to her younger teammates would be to “always work hard in practice, because the time you put in before games will show on the court.”  Congratulations to Regan Atkins and her brilliant success! We as a community cannot wait to see what the future holds for you!
