FFA State Farm Show
by Jackson Sauders
In the beginning of January, Mr.Harrold, the Agricultural Ed teacher, took Laurel’s FFA to the FFA State Farm Show held in Harrisburg, PA. I was able to interview Mr. Harrold and some willing students about how the convention went and the events they competed in.
After asking Mr. Harrold what they did in Harrisburg and how the students prepared for the show, he responded “.....We compete in the state square dance competition as well as the state demonstration team contest.”I then asked about the results of the trip and the outcome. Mr.Harrold responded by saying, “We had many FFA members receive awards such as a first and second place for square dance teams and a second place for the state demonstration team.”
Here are some other responses from the FFA members I interviewed such as Mack Shevitz, Tamra Miller, Cam Caldararo, Ryan DiMuccio, Shaina Wertz, Kyra Dillow, and Savannah Palmer:
Mack Shevitz has been an FFA member for one year but has really learned a lot during that time and has had fun with it. He participated in the square dancing competition at the state farm show and got first place.
This is Tamra Miller and Cam Caldararo’s fourth year doing FFA and Tamra was with the square dancing team that got first place and the square beside them got second. She also participated in the sheep livestock show and got fourth place with her team. She has really enjoyed being in the classroom and learning more about FFA everyday. Cam participated in the demonstration team and got second place and his favorite FFA moment has been to annoy Mr.Harrold during the first period.
Ryan DiMuccio, Shaina Wertz, and Kyra Dillow have all been in FFA for 3 years and Ryan participated in the demonstration team that got second place and his best FFA memory is the drink cooler in the back of the classroom.
Shaina Wertz and Kyra Geiger both did square dance and got first place. Shaina’s favorite FFA moment has been enjoying all the FFA’s related activities/trips. Kyra also loves to go on FFA trips especially the farm show in Harrisburg, PA.
Finally, Savannah Palmer who is the Laurel FFA Chapter President was announcing accomplishments about students that I wasn’t able to interview. She said that there were six people that went and got their Keystone Degree and those people were: Shaina Wertz, Tina Kineston, Sarah Jenkins, Kristen Frew, Kyra Dillow, and Oriana Green. Also there was one jacket recipient which was Marlee Guthree and three people that showed livestock: Caleb Miller, Tamra Miller, and Oriana Green. Overall Laurel’s FFA at the State Farm Show seemed to be very successful and they had to have a lot of fun doing it as well!
