Fall Ball Showdown

by Alexis Brua

On the weekend of September 2nd, 2023, the Lady Spartan Varsity softball team played in the Bobcat Brawl fall-ball tournament located in Beaver, PA. Many teams were in attendance, including teams from Lawrence, Beaver, and Allegheny County. The Spartans were off to play the following teams: Mohawk Warriors, Seneca Valley Raiders, Blackhawk Cougars, Pine-Richland Rams, and the South Side Rams.

Starting off rough, the Spartans suffered a loss, 3-5, early in the morning. But they did not let that weigh them down. Between games, the Bobcats held a homerun derby to raise money for the organization. Our very own Addison Deal participated and won by a landslide. Up next were the Seneca Valley Raiders.

After the previous loss, the Spartans knew how to come back, winning 9-1. Lastly for the first day, their next opponent were the Blackhawk Cougars, right out of the gate, the bats were hot, leading the Spartans to win 7-2. That was all for day one of the Bobcat Brawl. Day two was a not-so-busy one with only two games. First up were the Pine-Richland Rams. Our Lady Spartans must’ve knocked some rust off the previous day; they went on to defeat the Rams in a shutout, 15-0. The last game of the weekend was another shutout against the South Side Rams; the Lady Spartans winning 15-2. Overall, it was a great weekend of softball, with a team batting average of over .400 and 3 homeruns. It was a great way for the girls to end their summer on a high note.
